Composite doors are one of the most popular home-improvement products on the market at the moment, and with so many options available for you to purchase it can be challenging to know which one to choose. By looking at these six questions you can check how good a composite door supplier and their products really are.
1. How thermally efficient is it?
When looking at doors, specifically composite doors, it is apparent that not all of them are good at being thermally efficient. You will need to check that your composite door has the appropriate components needed to make it thermally efficient such as a foam filled core, or uPVC edge band. Foam is an excellent insulator and a uPVC edge band will increase the thermal efficiency of the door.
2. How secure is it?
The locking system of a door is one of it’s most important aspects, with security being one of the main reasons someone would wont to buy a composite door in the first place.
Rigid polymer subframes, high-density polyurethane foam cores, high impact resistant skin and high quality multi point locks are important elements to look out for when deciding whether or not the door is able to provide adequate security.
3. How good is the hardware?
Components like the door handle might seem a little trivial but it still an important aspect of any composite door.
You can check that your door has stainless steel hardware for example which comes with a 25-year guarantee, so you know it’s going to stand the test of time and the elements.
4. What is the weather performance?
Protection from the elements is another important thing to consider. Ideally your door will have a strongly sealed outer-frame to stop any draughts getting through and a PVC-u thermal insert for additional energy saving.
5. Is it available in a wide range of colours?
You’re going to be looking for a particular aesthetic in order for your door to fit in with the rest of your home, and you often will be looking for a real wow factor too. If your door is available in a wide range of colours then you know that at least one of them is going to suit your needs.
6. Is this a reliable supplier?
Once you have established that the product is at a high standard it can also be important to make sure that the supplier is able to offer you a premium service to match.
